I'm not really into "photoshop" effect, but just for fun, kept the red before turning it to B&W... the joy of digital photography!

This really works, it doesn't have that 'fake' photoshop feel to it rather accentuates what's already there. Very nicely composed, it makes me think of the point of having a hydrant there - great surrealist shot!

Red and snow - the two colors are highly complimentary. Clever color isolation. Nice one.

I like the effect. It makes the hydrant extra weird in that surrounding.

I, like you, have never been into photoshoppery or selective desaturation, however this really works quite well for this shot. Very graphic, somewhat surreal.

Yep it certainly works. But I wonder not what the hydrant is doing there but what are they doing there?! Great wilderness feel to this. Nice shot

Wow, it looks so powerful in the image but seemingly useless in its surrounding.

Fantastic choice of contrast colors here! Very nice perspective and well done on your post processing! BTW, I like the imagination you've put into your "profile" photo ... but I definitely would not try that out in real life though :) Cheers!

What an odd spot for a hydrant, guess you can never be too carefull. Nice shot and the selective color is nice too.
